Philip Brown

Philip Brown is the Managing Director, Sustainable Debt Capital Markets Citi, Investment Banking and heads Citi’s market-leading franchise in Sustainable Debt Capital Markets, based in London & working with bankers and DCM colleagues around the globe to promote sustainable finance with clients in all sectors. He has been with Citi for 25 years, joining the Debt Capital Markets team of Salomon Smith Barney in 1998 from Nikko, where he led the EMEA DCM team.

Philip is one of the most experienced DCM Bankers for Sovereigns, Multinational Development Banks and public sector issuers, where he’s spent most of his career. Philip was a co-author of the Green Bond Principles in 2013 and worked on Citi’s inaugural Green Bond in 2019. Citi is a leading issuer in Social Finance with a US Affordable Housing Framework and a Debt Issuance Framework for Inclusive Finance lending in emerging markets. More recently, Philip has worked closely with the World Bank to develop its Outcome Bonds program, leading the World Bank’s first four transactions under the program designed to promote financing for children and wildlife conservation as well as bonds linked to voluntary credit markets. Philip is now working closely with UNICEF and other Implementation Partners and issuers to build Outcome and Impact for Development finance as an asset class within fixed income markets.
