John Lonski is Managing Director and Chief Capital Markets Economist of Moody’s Analytics. His comments on credit market conditions appear daily in Moody’s CreditTrends and weekly in the Weekly Market Outlook.
John was cited as the most accurate forecaster during the four-years-ended 2013 by Blue Chip Economic Indicators and Arizona State University.
Earlier, he was named top economic forecaster in the Wall Street Journal’s survey of June 2004 and also was the leading prognosticator of high-yield bond spreads according to a Bloomberg survey.
A member of Blue Chip panel of economic forecasters, Mr. Lonski participates in a number of other forecasting surveys among which are those conducted by the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, and Reuters, as well as the Philadelphia Federal Reserve’s Survey of Professional Forecasters.
John has appeared many times on Fox Business News, Japan’s NHK TV, CNBC, Business News Network, and a number of other networks. He has been cited in a number of leading publications including the Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones, and Reuters, while also contributing a quarterly “op ed” piece for Japan’s Nikkei Veritas.
Prior to joining Moody’s in February 1985, John was employed by the National Economic Research Associates (NERA). John holds a B.S. degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and, except for the dissertation, completed all of the requirements for a Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University.
