Ellen Carr is a High Yield Portfolio Manager and Senior Credit Analyst at Weaver C. Barksdale (WCB), a boutique institutional fixed income asset management firm. Prior to joining WCB in 2013, Ellen spent 12 years at the Capital Group, which manages retail (under the “American Funds” brand) and institutional (under the “Capital Guardian” brand) portfolios.
Ellen started at Capital in 1999 as a high yield and investment grade corporate bond and loan analyst covering the retail, REIT, media and auto sectors. In 2006 she assumed portfolio management responsibilities for high yield mandates. In 2009 she added portfolio management responsibilities for investment grade credit mandates, including long duration.
Ellen has an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a BA from Harvard College, where she graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Ellen’s small foundation (the Carr Family Foundation) awards college scholarships in rural Tennessee. Ellen’s other non-profit activities include serving as a board member and treasurer of MountainTrue, a conservation organization, and as a member of the Leadership Council of Oxfam America. Ellen lives with her partner, 3-year-old son, and an incorrigible Boykin Spaniel in Asheville, NC, where she frequently indulges her trail running, yoga, and craft beer addictions (typically not at the same time).
