- Spencer Kagan is a Managing Director and Head of CMBS Credit and Underwriting at Barclays Capital.
- Prior to joining Barclays Mr. Kagan was Partner at G2 Real Estate Partners, responsible for overseeing advisory services. While at G2, Mr. Kagan Advised on over 65 transactions totaling over $15 billion loan balances. Additionally, Mr. Kagan led the effort to establish the infrastructure for G2s lending platform.
- From 1997 to 2008, Mr. Kagan worked at Lehman Brothers, where he was Head of Credit and Underwriting for the Large Loan Group. In that capacity, Mr. Kagan was instrumental in establishing a program to issue and securitize large commercial mortgage loans. His team analyzed, sized and structured approximately 600 commercial real estate loans totaling over $125 billion in gross loan balance over a 10-year span.
- Prior to joining Lehman Brothers Mr. Kagan worked for five years in the CMBS Ratings Group at Standard & Poors, where he helped establish ratings criteria for new commercial mortgage products.
- Mr. Kagan began his real estate career in 1987 at the real estate consulting practice of Kenneth Leventhal & Co.
- Mr. Kagan graduated with a B.A. in Economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton and earned an M.B.A. from the New York University Stern School of Business.
- Mr. Kagan is a frequent speaker on the topics of real estate and CMBS and also served on the CRE Finance Councils underwriting Task Force charged with the Development of Underwriting standards for new issue CMBS.
