James Egelhof is a Managing Director and the Chief US Economist at BNP Paribas, Markets 360, based in New York.
James is responsible for BNP Paribas’ coverage of the US economy, including the forecasting of growth, inflation and monetary policy.
James joined BNP Paribas in 2024. Prior to joining, he led fundamental global macro research at Jane Street, a quantitative trading firm, and held economics and macro strategy leadership roles at BWGI, a Brazilian family office, and at Citadel.
Before entering the private sector, James spent a decade at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he led a quantitative multi-asset research team focused on monetary policy strategy and the analysis of global markets. While at the Fed, James was a key staff contributor to the Fed’s quantitative easing and tightening programs, the reform of overnight money market rates, and the development of the Secured Overnight Financing Rate.
James holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, from which he graduated with high honors. He also holds Masters and Undergraduate degrees in computer science from Cornell University.
