2009 HALL OF FAME A SUCCESS

On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, the Fixed Income Analysts Society celebrated its 14th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner. The event was attended by over 200 people, and held at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Three individuals were inducted into the Hall of Fame:

  • Keith Anderson, Chief Investment Officer Soros Fund Management, LLC
  • Laurie Goodman, Managing Director
    Amherst Securities Group
  • John C. Hull, Professor
    Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto

JOHN C. HULL

Introduction of John C. Hull by John Finnerty

It is a great pleasure to be able to introduce Dr. John Hull, Professor of Derivatives and Risk Management and Co-Director of the Master of Finance Program at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

John is an eminent scholar who rightfully belongs among the many other luminaries in FIASI’s Hall of Fame.

John is an internationally recognized authority in the areas of fixed income modeling, derivatives, and risk management. He has written three books, including Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives, which is now in its seventh edition. It is a beautifully written and informative text that is a must-read for every fixed income professional with a keen interest in fixed income valuation.

Keith Anderson

Keith Anderson serves as Chief Investment Officer for Soros Fund Management, LLC and its principal entity the Quantum Fund. In this role, Keith oversees all investment activities and investment professionals of Soros Fund Management, LLC. Prior to joining Soros Fund Management in February of 2008, Mr. Anderson was Vice Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of BlackRock, Inc., a $1.4 trillion asset management firm. Mr. Anderson was one of the founders of BlackRock in 1988 and spent twenty years at the firm.

Prior to founding BlackRock, Mr. Anderson was a Vice President in Fixed Income Research at The First Boston Corporation. From 1983 to 1987, Mr. Anderson was a portfolio manager at Criterion Investment Management Company.

Mr. Anderson serves as Chairman of the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee which meets quarterly in Washington, DC with the Secretary and staff of the US Treasury to advise on the financing and management of the Federal debt.

Mr. Anderson currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Family Dynamics, a non-profit organization focusing on the prevention of child abuse and on the Boards of Rice University in Houston and The Brearley School in New York City. Additionally, Mr. Anderson is a member of The Economic Club of New York.

Mr. Anderson earned a BS degree in economics and finance from Nichols College in 1981, and an MBA degree in business administration from Rice University in 1983. Keith and his wife Peggy have four children and reside in New York City.

Laurie Goodman

Laurie is a Senior Managing Director at Amherst Securities, responsible for research and business development. She joined the firm in December, 2008. From 1993-Nov 2008, Laurie was head of Global Fixed Income Research and Manager of U.S. Securitized Products Research at UBS and predecessor firms. The UBS Securitized Products Research group was widely recognized for its insightful analysis and weekly Mortgage Strategist publication. Prior to that, Laurie spent 10 years in senior fixed income research positions at Citicorp, Goldman Sachs, and Merrill Lynch. She was also a mortgage portfolio manager on the buy side and a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

As a mortgage analyst, Laurie has long dominated Institutional Investor’s MBS categories, placing first in multiple categories 44 times over the last eleven years—more than any other analyst in the history of the II polls.

Laurie holds a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Stanford University. She has published more than 180 articles in professional and academic journals, and co-authored and co-edited books 5 books.
